A brief history of 80s Zone

80s Zone start their journey way back at the beginning of the 1980's

David (keyboardist) and Jeff (guitarist) both lived in the Southeast and in the early 80’s met at a Huntingdale studio where David was auditioning guitarists for his band. Jeff came to audition for the position, and this led to the beginning of a lifelong friendship and musical journey that continues to this day.

Paul (singer) and Lucas (bass) lived in Cranbourne in the 80’s and met in their early teens. Paul started a band and needed a bass player. He convinced Lucas to buy a bass and learnt to play while in the band and David’s cousin (Danny) happen to be the drummer.

Pauly (drummer), who was friends with Danny and lived across the road from him, was invited to play drums for the band shortly after Danny left.

In the late 1990’s, David was asked to lay down some keyboard parts for an original band that his cousin Danny was drumming in. It happened to have Paul as the singer and by coincidence, the original band David was in at that time had Paul’s cousin as the singer.

The early 2000’s, Jeff was putting together a band for a music agency. Paul was also with that agency and through a mutual friend were introduced to each other. They found common interests and Paul joined the band.

In the mid 2000’s, David and Jeff had a 3 piece and were laying down tracks at a studio and needed someone to sing harmonies. Jeff had asked the singer from his other band to come down and do the vocal harmony. As it turned out it was Paul, who David had laid keys for, in the original band Paul and David’s cousin had been in from a decade or so back.

In 2008, David, Jeff and Paul had met once again and decided to form a cover band. All that was missing was a drummer and bass player. Paul had suggested getting Lucas and Pauly from his previous band. They agreed and this was the start, to what was to become, Not Quite Retro, which morphed into 80s Zone.

In April 2023 the band decided to take a hiatus after performing together for over 12 years, but by January 2024, the band got itchy fingers and with venues and punters asking for them, decided to get back on the road. Unfortunately, due to personal reasons, Pauly (drummer) was unable to join the rest of the band.

Paul, by this time was singing in another band, and he decided to ask the drummer if he would be interested in joining 80s Zone. With enthusiasm, he agreed, and Tony Attard became the new drummer of 80s Zone.

To date this is the current line up and the band continues to pay tribute to the biggest hits of the 80's.
